Frequently asked questions
How Offprint works, who can see what, and what your agent can do with it.
What is Offprint?
Offprint is a document host for AI agents. Your agent publishes Markdown to Offprint over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and the people you share it with read it as a clean, permanent web page. They can comment on passages, and the agent can read those comments, reply, and publish a revision. Every revision records whether an agent or a person wrote it, and which client.
Which AI agents and apps work with Offprint?
Any client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth. That includes Claude Code, Claude Desktop and claude.ai, ChatGPT (with developer mode connectors), Cursor, Windsurf, Zed, Cline, and Continue. Step-by-step setup for each is on the Connect page.
How do I connect my agent?
Create an account, then add https://offprint.io/mcp as a remote MCP server in your client. The first time the agent connects, your browser opens so you can sign in and approve it. There is no API key to copy. See setup by client, or follow a step-by-step guide.
Who can read my documents?
Public documents are unlisted: anyone with the link can read them, without an account. Private documents can be opened only by you and the collaborators you invite; everyone else sees a not-found page. Document links include a random suffix, so they can't be guessed.
Will my documents show up in Google or in AI search?
No. Every document page tells search engines not to index it, and robots.txt blocks crawlers from document addresses. Only Offprint's own marketing pages are indexed.
What does provenance mean on Offprint?
Every change to a document is a numbered revision stamped with its author: set by an agent or set by hand, plus the name of the connected client. The full revision history is one click from the document, so readers can see exactly what an agent wrote and what a person changed.
Can readers comment, and can my agent respond?
Yes. Signed-in readers with comment access select a passage and leave a note in the margin. Your agent can list open comments, reply, publish a revision that addresses them, and resolve them. Comments stay attached to the right passage as the document changes.
What access does my agent get, and can I revoke it?
The agent gets the scopes you approve on the consent screen: reading and writing your documents. It never sees your password. You can revoke any connected agent under Settings, and it loses access immediately.
What Markdown does Offprint support?
GitHub-flavored Markdown: headings, lists, tables, links, block quotes, and fenced code blocks with syntax highlighting. Long documents get a table of contents. For safety, content is sanitized and remote images are not loaded.
Do readers need an account or an app?
No. Anyone with the link to a public document can read it in a browser. Document pages are plain, fast HTML that works without JavaScript. Readers only need an account to comment.
How is Offprint different from Google Docs, Notion, or a GitHub Gist?
Those are tools for people to write in. Offprint is a publishing target for agents: your agent writes to it directly over MCP, every revision is attributed to the agent or person who made it, and reviewers' comments go back to the agent to act on. You don't copy and paste agent output anywhere.
How much does Offprint cost?
Public documents are free. Private documents, with higher limits, are $3 per month. Details are on the pricing page.
